How to Set Button Click Event in Flutter

In Google Flutter, how of the common task flutter developers implement is on button click event.

The code example below will illustrate how to set button click event in Flutter.

It is based on Flutter version 1.0.0.

Main.dart (App entry point)

import 'package:flutter/material.dart';
import 'button_click_event.dart';

void main() => runApp(MyApp());

class MyApp extends StatelessWidget {
  // This widget is the root of your application.
  @override
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return MaterialApp(
      title: 'Flutter Demo',
      debugShowCheckedModeBanner: false,
      theme: ThemeData(
        // This is the theme of your application.
        //
        // Try running your application with "flutter run". You'll see the
        // application has a blue toolbar. Then, without quitting the app, try
        // changing the primarySwatch below to Colors.green and then invoke
        // "hot reload" (press "r" in the console where you ran "flutter run",
        // or simply save your changes to "hot reload" in a Flutter IDE).
        // Notice that the counter didn't reset back to zero; the application
        // is not restarted.
        primarySwatch: Colors.blue,
      ),
      //home: MyHomePage(title: 'Flutter Demo Home Page'),
      home: ButtonClickEvent(),
    );
  }
}

button_click_event.dart

Create an instance of the class ButtonClickEventand assign it to the MaterialAppwidget home attribute as show above.

import 'package:flutter/material.dart';

class ButtonClickEvent extends StatefulWidget {
  @override
  ButtonClickEventState createState() {
    return new ButtonClickEventState();
  }
}

class ButtonClickEventState extends State<ButtonClickEvent> {
  int countValue = 1;
  @override
  Widget build(BuildContext context) {
    return Scaffold(
        appBar: AppBar(
          title: Text('Button Cick Event Example'),
        ),
        body: Center(
            child: Column(
          mainAxisAlignment: MainAxisAlignment.center,
          mainAxisSize: MainAxisSize.max,
          children: <Widget>[
            Expanded(
                child: Center(
                    child: Text(countValue.toString(),
                        style: TextStyle(fontSize: 25.0)))),
            RaisedButton(
              child: Text('Click Button '),
              onPressed: () {
                //Insert event to be fired up when button is clicked here
                //in this case, this increments our `countValue` variable by one.
                setState(() => countValue += 1);
              },
            ),
          ],
        )));
  }
}
